Who’s up for some ’90s alternative rock? We’re thinking everyone. After a short 23-year hiatus, Dogstar is back and as likable as ever. With Bret Domrose on guitar, Rob Mailhouse on drums and absolute legend Keanu Reeves bringing up the low end on bass, this band is certainly ready to rock. The reunited trio’s first single and video back, “Everything Turns Around,” came out earlier in July, to be followed by a full album on the group’s own Dillon Street Records, “Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees,” on Oct. 6. And we’re so stoked to announce a bonus stop on the comeback tour, Cardboard Sessions #17.

Sunset Sound Studios boasts a rolodex as famous as the Hollywood Sign. And for good reason. With its state-of-the-art equipment and acoustically exceptional recording rooms, Sunset Sound has been the creative sanctuary for countless iconic musicians and bands. Maybe you’ve heard of The Rolling Stones, Prince, Led Zeppelin, Elton John and, now, Dogstar. The legendary recording facility has played a pivotal role in shaping the music industry since its establishment in 1962. Its warm, vintage ambiance and commitment to preserving analog recording traditions make it a revered destination for artists seeking to capture timeless sounds. And boy, was that true during #17. The vibe was cool, and the energy was infectious.

Try not to smile when you hear their sound. We dare you. Dogstar never conformed to anyone else’s idea of who they should be and what they should sound like. They were never obsessed with their musical pursuit, seeking a bigger canvas on which to create. And three corrugated cardboard instruments confirmed that this is still the case. They rocked away on the Fender Strat guitar, Masters of Maple Drum kit and Fender Bass.
